UBC Fonts Request Form

Our institutional fonts are available for free to UBC faculties and units. Requests can be made by UBC faculty and staff who have a UBC email address. Our font license does not cover students or external providers at this time.

Whitney, UBC’s primary font, can be ordered as a web font (only for websites) or as a desktop font (for any design project other than websites). Our secondary font, Guardian Egyptian, is only available as a desktop font, and can not be used on websites.

*Please note that Microsoft Office programs, including Word, PowerPoint and Outlook, may experience technical difficulties with third-party fonts. You may notice that Whitney and Guardian do not display properly in these programs. To avoid these issues, we recommend using Arial in Microsoft Office programs. Please use Whitney and Guardian in all other programs.

The Whitney and Guardian Egyptian desktop fonts are only available to UBC staff and faculty.
For students and external consultants, Whitney is available for purchase through Hoefler & Co. and Guardian Egyptian is available for purchase through Commercial Type.
How many copies of the fonts do you need?*
You will need one copy for each computer that the fonts will be installed on.

The Whitney web fonts are only available to UBC Departments for websites that use the UBC CLF (Common Look and Feel) templates, and a .ubc.ca subdomain.

Note: You do not need the web font for use on your desktop computer.

Note: If you have requested the Whitney font for a domain in the past, there is no need to submit a new request for the secure URL (https://) of the same domain. The Whitney web font will automatically work on both http and https.
